創作關注的主題是「生命遇困境後質變的生存狀態」及「混沌與秩序的演生流變」，創作從凝視死亡開始，但並非關注死亡這個結局或死後世界，而是走向死亡的過程中，生命對抗試煉湧現的力量與留下的痕跡。作品媒材大量使用炭，是為了褪去物質的外衣，看見內裡那些關於經歷的時間、質變、淨化、重生、與不可見的火。

使用炭創作，是創作者從2020年開始發展的創作方式，使用的動機是希望連結土地（自然）、身份（竹與東方）、親緣（父親是南投竹山人，祖父曾經營金銀紙工廠），並思考將曾經學習過的義大利古典馬賽克技法經驗及台灣傳統剪黏工藝結合，作品刻意使用來自廢棄樹木竹林的修枝並經過窯燒火煉的竹炭木炭，灌注對於「生命曾經燦爛，遭遇火煉後的殘餘，再次豐盛生長」的哲思及循環永續的精神。期望未來創作方向能更深刻的討論及展現關於 “秩序/混沌”、“都市/自然”、“地質/宇宙” 等不同面向的主題。

Artist Jing Jhong focuses on the themes of “the state of living which has been altered by difficulties in life” and “ the evolution of chaos and order”. It starts off with a view on death, yet does not emphasise on death as an ending or life after death; rather, it looks at the journey towards death, and the traces left behind from the power of life’s struggle against trials. Copious amounts of charcoal are used as its medium to represent the unveiling of matter, to reveal the time, changes, purification, rebirth, and hidden flames of life’s experiences.

Charcoal has been the artist’s chosen medium of creation since 2020. The motivation behind this is to connect with land (nature), identity (bamboo and the East), and kinship (his father is from Zhushan Township- an important town of Taiwan’s bamboo forest processing industry in the 50s- in Nantou County, and his grandfather used to run a bamboo paper factory); and he thought of combining Italian traditional mosaic techniques with Taiwanese traditional temple fragmented ceramic techniques. Charcoal pruned from abandoned trees, is deliberately chosen for his work, instilling the philosophy and perpetual spirit whereby: “Once brilliant; life’s remnants prosper again upon refinement from fire”. He hopes that the creative direction of future work can discuss and showcase topics including “order/chaos”, “city/nature”, “geology/cosmos”, and other aspects more deeply.
 

「命が困難に遭遇した際に起こる質的変化を伴う生存状態」と「混沌と秩序の生成と変容」に関心を向けることがモチーフとなっている。死を見つめることがこのクリエイションの始まりだが、着目点は死という結末やあの世ではなく、死が一歩一歩近づく中で、命が試練に立ち向かうために湧き上がる力と、そこに残された跡に着目している。作品に大量の炭を使っている理由は、物質の表層を剥ぎ取り、中身に存在する時間経過と質的変化、浄化、蘇生、そして見えない炎を浮き彫りにしたいためである。

南投‧竹山出身の父と冥銭工場を運営していた祖父を持つクリエーターは、自身と自然環境や竹、そして東洋文化との深い関わりを感じ、2020年から炭を使って創作し始めている。作品に土地、アイデンティティー、家族関係との繋がりを込めたいという思いが、創作のモチベーションとなっている。以前学んだイタリアの伝統的モザイク技法と、台湾の伝統工芸である剪黏（ジェンネン）という陶片を切り貼りする技法を融合させることも考えつつ、廃木材や竹廃材を窯焼きして作られた竹炭と木炭を、意図的に作品に取り入れている。「明るく輝いた命が灼熱の炎に燃え尽きた後も、その余燼から再び蘇り、活気を取り戻す」というコンセプトと、リサイクルとサステナブルの精神を作品に吹き込んでいる。これからは「秩序／混沌」や「都市／自然」、「地質／宇宙」など様々なテーマをさらに掘り下げ、人々に様々な思考を促すような作品を創作していきたいと考えている。
